I'm thrilled to inform you that this Wednesday, 21st May, at Salsa Rocks we have guest teacher George "Dr Salsa" with us, while resident teacher Philip Charles is holidaying in the Caribbean! And for the ladies, we have Agi Banas teaching with George, so be ready for an extra dose of styling and some very useful following tips!! Also, George will be back at Salsa Rocks Wednesdays for another guest teaching slot on the 11th of June!
I had been dancing salsa for about 6-8 months when I first attended a class with George. Just like all other salsa addicts, I used to try and attend every weekly class in town at that time. I thought I knew what to expect in any salsa class... Mistake! In comes Dr Salsa, shows an amazingly difficult looking routine, teaches you how to make it effortless, goes on to teach an impressive lift and ends with a warning to personally inflict physical harm on anyone trying that lift on a crowded dancefloor! We laughed but maybe he was serious? :D
That was my first experience of a proper hard class where the teacher managed to make everyone laugh and enjoy the class throughout and, through that hard routine, taught me at least a dozen things which improved my dancing in general. I have since then attended several of his classes at different events and every time I've come out having learnt something new and a smile on my face. Being the lucky guy I am, I also won a private lesson with him at a raffle some time back but I'll save that story for another time :)
George dances and teaches the LA on1 style of salsa with his own funky street dance flavour. He will be teaching the Intermediates' on1 at 7pm and the now rescheduled Improvers' class at 9pm. Revised class schedule:
